I lived in San Francisco when I was 21 and studying at the Art School of San Francisco, it's changed a lot since then but I still adore my time there and getting to my favourite spots for a bit of nostalgia is great.
As a young artist SFO couldn't have been a better place to live and paint. The vibe was electric and you are just surrounded by amazing design and style.
I am mostly there on business now but when I have a spare evening I make the most of it!
Here is my guide for things to do in San Francisco:
Tonga Room & Hurricane bar - http://www.tongaroom.com/
A band on a floating pontoon, a delicious cocktail served in a tiki cup and tropical rain pouring from the roof next to you, so kitsch, but so fun!
Top of the mark, Mark Hopkins Hotel - http://www.intercontinentalmarkhopkins.com
The best view of San Francisco and the cocktails are also spectacular
The Slanted Door - http://www.slanteddoor.com/
Sublime food right on the water overlooking the harbour, a truly fantastic experience!
My all time favorite place to stay in SFO, from the incredible rooms, to the giant sized arm chair in the lobby and the paintings that come to life in the bar, this place is beyond cool!
Ghirardelli Chocolate factory - http://www.ghirardelli.com/
This place has the most delicious sweet treats in SFO and is a great family adventure for anyone who loves chocolate, YUM!
